Apple announces the iPhone Upgrade Plan

Apple today, at their special event, unveiled the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, along with the new iPads and Apple TV. You can start pre-ordering the iPhones in a few days and they will be available on September 25th. During this event, Apple also announced their brand new program called the iPhone Upgrade Plan. The 4.7 inch 16GB iPhone 6s starts at $199, while the 64GB and 128GB versions will be available at $299 and $399 respectively. The iPhone 6s Plus, having a larger 5.5 inch screen, will be available at a slight higher price of $299 for 16GB, and the 64GB and 128GB versions at $399 and $499 respectively. So what is the new upgrade plan about?

If you sign up for the iPhone Upgrade Plan, you can trade-in your iPhone for a new model after 12 monthly installments are paid. This upgrade then starts another new cycle of the program. The main features of this program are:

  • You will be able to get a new iPhone every year.
  • The phone you will get would be unlocked.
  • The upgrade plan comes with AppleCare+ insurance
  • Low monthly installments to be paid rather than a big amount upfront

Major carriers have their own pricing plans, and some let you upgrade your phone after 18 – 24 months. But with the iPhone Upgrade Plan, you can get a new iPhone after only 12 monthly installments. Amazing, isn’t it? Moreover, the phone you get is unlocked. This means, now you will have the option of choosing your own carrier, and you can also switch from one to the other! If you buy your phone from any of the major carriers in the US, you will be deprived from this luxury for sure. The upgrade plan comes with AppleCare+ insurance, extending your warranty for up to 2 years. This means, you also save $129 on AppleCare+ for iPhone 6s and 6s Plus from outside the of program.

The best part of this Upgrade Plan are the low monthly installments inclusive of all the features. For as low as $32/month, you can get the iPhone 6s and the prices go slightly higher with different versions. You may argue that carriers such as AT&T and Verizon have pricing plan lower than this, but well, they do not cover insurance! When you add insurance to their plans, it will move up to almost $2 than what Apple has to offer, and that is how smartly Apple wants to take advantage of the market.

Wrap Up

If you don’t want the AppleCare+ insurance, you can definitely consider going with any of the major carriers in the country. But, if you don’t want to bind yourself with a two year contract, and would want a new iPhone every year, with insurance covered, the Apple’s iPhone Upgrade Plan has the best offer out there.
